Safety & Compliance

Safety. Compliance. Productivity.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified agriculture as the most hazardous industry in the United States. Agriculture operations in the US employed approximately 2,050,000 full-time workers in 2017. An estimated 893,000 youth under 20 years of age resided on farms in 2014, with about 454,000 youth performing farm work. Every day, about 100 agricultural workers suffer a lost-work-time injury. In 2016, 417 farmers and farm workers died from a work-related injury.

Agriculture is important to our community because it provides the food we eat and jobs for many people. Each year farmers adopt new farming techniques and technology that develop new hazards. With out education and experience, agriculture workers will unknowingly put themselves in danger.

Here at Willamette Farm Labor we study new trends in farming techniques and ergonomics to reduce possible accidents. Each year we attend classes taught by Oregon State University (OSU), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), State Accident Insurance Fund (SAIF), and Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI). This gives us the diverse perspective needed to properly understand developing hazards and education to properly communicate hazardous behaviors.

Labor contractors and their clients share responsibilities. You can count on our staff to do the right thing. It is important to understand the liabilities you my be buying by simply hiring the wrong labor contractor. Did you know that your operation may be liable for your contractors injuries and personally liable for your contractors payroll taxes?

Labor contractors are required to have a Federal License and a State License.

First Aid & CPR

First aid training provides your staff with the confidence and capability to react immediately to an incident, injury or illness. In the event of a medical emergency, when properly trained, a fellow employee can administer basic medical treatment or CPR (as needed). It’s been proven that CPR aid provided during critical and life-threatening accidents, injuries or health complications in the workplace saves lives.

First aid kits will have what is needed: Not only does first aid training teach your employees how to respond to a medical emergency, but it also teaches them exactly what should be in the first aid kit.
